Phillips, Rita Agnes
Rita Agnes Phillips, 94, of 31730 Lamar Drive, Farmington, Mich. and 1673 N. Kellogg St., Galesburg, Ill., died at 6:25 a.m. Sunday, April 17, 2011 in OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.

She was born March 6, 1917 in Detroit, Mich., the daughter of Charles L. and Gertrude Ann Brennan Hubert. She married Frederick Wendell Phillips on April 30, 1943 in New Haven, Conn. He preceded her in death on January 3, 1982.

She is survived by a daughter, Mary Elizabeth (and husband John Richard Sayre) Phillips of Galesburg; three sons, Joseph Gerard Phillips of Farmington, Mich., John Paul (and wife Barbara) Phillips of Redford, Mich., and Frederick William Phillips of Leola, Pa.; four grandchildren, Peter (and wife Lisa) Phillips, Krista (and husband Eric) Wise, Michael Phillips, and John Aaron (and wife Allison) Sayre; and three great grandchildren, Kyle Phillips, Ryan Phillips, and Corey Wise. She was preceded in death by her parents; two infant daughters, Patricia Margaret Ann and Elizabeth Ann; and six brothers and sisters.

Rita was a homemaker and pianist. She graduated from Visitation High School in Detroit in 1935, from the University of Detroit, and the Detroit Institute of Musical Art. She lived in both Farmington, Mich. and Galesburg, Ill.

Rita was a member of St. Gerald Catholic Church in Farmington Hills, Mich. and Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Galesburg.

Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 20, 2011 in Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Rev. William Miller, Rev. Joseph Presley, and Rev. Deus-Dedit Byabato will concelebrate the Mass. Visitation will be 5 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield, Mich. Memorials may be made to St. Gerald Catholic Church, Corpus Christi Catholic Church, American Life League, or Covenant House. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
