Theesfeld, Lavern Rolland
Lavern Rolland Theesfeld, age 89, of Altona, Illinois died at 10:14 A.M. on Sunday, April 17, 2011 at Cottage Hospital in Galesburg, Illinois. He was born on November 8, 1921 in Knox County, Illinois, the son of Charles and Jennie Anderson Theesfeld. He married Virginia Ruth Reynolds on June 5, 1953 in the Altona Methodist Church in Altona, Illinois. She survives of Altona, Illinois.

Also surviving are one son, Donald A. Theesfeld of Altona, Illinois; one daughter, Mary Jane Theesfeld (Michael) Thomas of Oneida, Illinois; one niece, Lora Beth Barnett of Piedmont, South Carolina and one nephew, Charles Theesfeld of Piedmont, South Carolina. He was preceded in death by his parents.

He graduated from Walnut Grove High School in Altona, Illinois. He served in the United States Army from August 24, 1942 until October 17, 1945 in the Battle of the Bulge. He received the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon With One Silver Battle Star, One Service Stripe, Two Overseas Service Bars, Good Conduct Medal and a Bronze Star Medal. He worked at Rowe Manufacturing Co in Galesburg, Illinois for 28 1/2 in the door department. He later worked at Altona Cooperative Grain for 8 1/2 years retiring in 1983 from there. He was a member of Faith Methodist Church in Galesburg, Illinois. He was a 60 + year member of the Ekstedt-Hurr American Legion Post # 390 of Altona, Illinois where he had served as commander and treasurer. He enjoyed gardening, going fishing and vacations with his family and especially spending time with his children.

Cremation Rites will be accorded. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 22, 2011 from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. at the Hurd Hendricks Funeral Home and Crematory in Oneida, Illinois. Memorials may be made to the Family.
