Harold D. Arnold, 85, of 800 N. Market St., Knoxville, died at 2:10 a.m. Tuesday, April 19, 2011 in the Knox County Nursing Home.
He was born May 17, 1925 in Memphis, Mo., the son of Emmett and Grace Estill Arnold. He married Mary Evaun Mathes on December 3, 1944 in Memphis, Mo. She preceded him in death August 21, 1980. He later married Minnie Dilts in January 1984 in Galesburg. She preceded him in death on May 9, 2009.
He is survived by four daughters, Deanna (and Doug) Bryant of Galesburg, Linda (and Toby) Machler of Scottsdale, Ariz., Connie (and Harland) Schroeder of Noblesville, Ind., and Mary Arnold of Mesa, Ariz.; four granddaughters, Lisa, Dawn, Heather, and Megan; a great granddaughter, Jordan; four great grandsons; Tyler, Cameron, Garrett, and Nick; two brothers, Estill Arnold of Rock Island, Ill. and Bill (and Dorothy) Arnold of Kewanee, Ill; and step grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Richard Arnold and one in infancy; and a step sister, Marge Donahue.
Harold was a custodian for Galesburg School District 205 for 18 years, retiring in 1987. He attended Memphis, Mo. schools. He was a member of First Christian Church. Harold served in the United States Army during World War II.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 23, 2011 in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. Greg Fitch will officiate. Military rites will also be provided by Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285 on Saturday at the chapel. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the chapel. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens.
