Landon, Cecelia
Cecelia "Ce" Landon, 87, of 204 N. Knox St. in Abingdon, passed at 2:43 am Sunday, April 24, 2011 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg.

She was born on August 2, 1923, the daughter of James and Theresa (Fogarty) Newton. She married Gerald Jake Landon in 1947. He preceded her in death in 1963.

"Ce" is survived by one daughter, Debbie (and Jerome) Pankey of Clifton; two sons, Jim Landon (and Cheryl) of Avon and Jerry (and Marlene) Landon of Knoxville, Tennessee. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Jerid Simkins of Abingdon, Katie Fitch of Knoxville, Tennessee, Tyler Pankey of Belleville, Brad Landon of Knoxville, Tennessee, Whitney Pankey Strang of Arlington, Virginia, Jake Landon of Abingdon and Sam Landon of Knoxville, Tennessee; four great-grandchildren, Hannah, Maddie, and Ella Simkins and Jace Landon all of Abingdon; and by a large loving extended family including a cherished nephew, Steve Darmer.

She was a lifelong resident of the Abingdon, Avon and St. Augustine areas. She graduated from Avon High School. After attending Western Illinois University, Cecelia taught in a one room school house. She and her husband farmed in the Abingdon area. She then became a nurse and worked as a nurse and administrator at the Abingdon Nursing Home and at the Knox County Nursing Home and later worked as a nurse before retiring from OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg and she was selected as "Employee of the Year" in 1987.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Abingdon and enjoyed playing cards and slot machines and tending her flowers. She was known for her hard work, good humor and kind spirit.

Funeral mass will be held at 10:30 am Thursday, April 28, 2011 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Abingdon. Monsignor Ernest Pizzamiglio will officiate. Burial will follow in the Abingdon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Wednesday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel with the praying of the Rosary at 6:30 pm.
