|Wallace E. Walters, 86, of Galesburg, died at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 28, 2011 in OSF St. Mary Medical Center.
He was born May 9, 1924 in Galesburg, the son of Ralph and Verna Mae Nelson Walters. He was raised by his mother and step father, Verna and Rolland Wise. He married Marjorie B. Hevland on October 6, 1946 in Galesburg.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie; a son, John (and Beth) Walters of Galesburg; four grandchildren, Kirk Walters, Tricia (and Eric) Foster, Steve Walters, and Jason Walters; 11 great grandchildren; and six great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Wallace worked as a maintenance welder for Butler Manufacturing Company for 43 years, retiring in 1989. He also sold advertisements for Newton Manufacturing for over 40 years up until recently.
He attended Galesburg High School and received his GED after World War II, where he served with the United States Marine Corps in the Pacific Theatre.
His hobbies included bowling and watching the Chicago Bulls.
Funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, 2011 in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. James Ecklund will officiate. Visitation will be 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens with military rites by Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285. Memorials may be made to Prairieland Animal Welfare Center.
