Marsha E. Chandler, 69, of Oquawka, IL. died at 8:02 P.M. Sunday, April 3, 2011 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.
She was born March 15, 1942 in Ft. Madison, IA the daughter of William and Elaine (Gilliam) John. She was raised and educated in the Oquawka area graduating from the G and O High School in 1960.
Marsha married Larry Chandler in Macomb, IL on Dec. 5, 1960 and he survives.
Marsha worked at the Burlington Hospital as a switchboard operator. She later worked in the Admission Dept. at Community Memorial Hospital. She also owned and operated Marsha’s Hobbies in Oquawka for several years. Marsha enjoyed spending time with her family, crafts, flowers, sewing, monogramming, genealogy, bowling and being a 4-H leader.
She was a member of the Oquawka Methodist Church and taught Sunday school at the Rozetta Baptist Church. She was a member of the Homemaker Extension and help with local Girl Scouts and Brownie Troops.
Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Deborah Elaine (Ruben) Platte of St. Joseph, MO; two sons, Daniel Chandler and Carl (Angela) Chandler both of Oquawka; numerous grandchildren, several great grandchildren; one sister, Lisa (Scott) Ray of Oquawka; 5 brothers, Ronald John of Oquawka, Kenneth (Roberta) John of Oquawka, Dennis (Lois) John of Burkburnett, TX, Keith (Darolyn) John of Oquawka and Kevin (Jane) John of Monmouth; several nieces and nephews.
Her parents and one brother, Billy John, preceded her in death
Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Thursday, April 7, 2011 at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Monmouth with Rev. Jeff Robbins of the Oquawka Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Oquawka Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Monmouth where her family will be present from 5:00-7:00 P.M.
