|Dorothy M. White, 76, of Galesburg died at 7:37 pm Thursday, April 5, 2012 in Seminary Manor Nursing Home.
She was born on January 14, 1936 in Springfield, Ill., the daughter of Clement James and Beatrice C. Pelham Hollis.
She is survived by her son, Lyndon (Jerri Ann) Swigart of Macomb, Ill.; her daughter, Cheryl Lynn Alkire-Jenkins of Bozeman, Mont.; two sisters Nancy Landgrebe and Barbara Howard both of Springfield, Ill; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her son Nick Swigart.
Dorothy worked for the Illinois State Library in Springfield. She also worked for the Galesburg Post and other secretarial jobs. She graduated from Athens High School Athens, Ill., in 1954. She was a member of the Galesburg Senior Citizens Club, the Kensington Club and a member of the Friends at the Public Library. Dorothy attended the First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed visiting with her family and friends. She loved her church, piano, writing stories and poetry. She enjoyed traveling, reading, cooking, gardening, sewing, embroidery, photography and crafts, drawing and art work.
Graveside Memorial Service is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 13, 2012 at East Linwood Cemetery. Bonnie K. Ericson will officiate. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church or to the Knox County Milk Fund for the children. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
