|Kenneth M. Jones, Sr., 93, formerly of 777 Olive St., Galesburg, died at 5:45 p.m. Sunday, April 8, 2012 in Marigold Health Care Center.
He was born September 9, 1918 in Albia, Iowa the son of James W. and Kathryn Muilenburg Jones. He married Cora A. Burch on December 3, 1938 in Burlington, Iowa. She preceded him in death on May 29, 2009.
He is survived by a son, Kenneth M. "Butch" (and Sidnie) Jones Jr. of Galesburg; two daughters, Barbara (and Bill) Leihenseder of Knoxville, Ill. and Judith (and Gene) Stull of Galesburg; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and two sisters, Barbara Bloomgren of Galesburg and Darlene McMillen of Carthage, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, four brothers, and two sisters.
Kenneth was a plumber and pipefitter for Maytag for 41 years, retiring in 1980. He also farmed in Henderson Grove for 30 years before moving to Galesburg in 1982.
He graduated from Galesburg High School. He was a member of the former Emmanuel United Methodist Church, where he was a past board member and trustee for 10 years. He was also a member of the Knox County Farm Bureau and Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285. He served in the United States Army during World War II.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2012 in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mike Lummis will officiate. Military honors will also be provided by Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285. Visitation will be 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Marigold Health Care Center.
