Bonnie J. Carlson, 83, of 792 S. Academy St., Galesburg, died at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 9, 2012 in the Knox County Nursing Home.
She was born September 5, 1928 in Persifer Township, Knox County the daughter of LeRoy and Ava Gardner Myers. She married Donald B. Carlson June 21, 1947 in Knoxville, Ill. He preceded her in death on February 12, 2011.
She is survived by two daughters, Rebecca R. (and Terry) Gardner of Galesburg and Cynthia S. Anderson of Moline; two grandchildren, Andrew B. Anderson of Chattanooga, Tenn. and Ashton R. Anderson of Monmouth, Ill.; and a sister, Darlene Barman of Little York, Ill. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Rodger D. Carlson; and siblings, Robert Myers, Betty Oglesby, Ruby Myers, and Mary Shenaut.
Bonnie graduated from Knoxville High School in 1946. Prior to her marriage, she worked at Kresge's and as a pediatric aide at St. Mary's Hospital. Bonnie was a member of the Mothers of World War II, sewing lap blankets for veterans in VA hospitals. When her daughters were young, she was an active member of the PTA at Cooke School and acted as a Brownie leader. Bonnie was a prolific writer, sending letters and cards to her many friends and family.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, April 14, 2012 in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. Chaplain Roberta Rudiger will officiate. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Unit at Knox County Nursing Home.
