|Kermit L. "Brownie" Brown, age 89, formerly of Avon and Abingdon, died at 11:13 am Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
He was born December 23, 1922 in London Mills, the son of Fred and Cora (Hamman) Brown. He married Wilma (Todd) Howard on October 27, 1961 in Abingdon. She preceded him in death on December 25, 1996. He was also preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Nancy Links, two grandchildren, Kevin Turner and Vanessa (Links) Abbott, and one brother, Frederick Brown.
Kermit is survived by one daughter, Marty (and Ron) Neilson of Lyons, Colorado; six grandchildren including Becki Simpson of Abingdon, his caregiver; one step-granddaughter; twenty great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
He graduated from Avon High School in 1940. He served in the Army during WW II. He had lived most of his adult life in Abingdon. He was of the Methodist faith. He was a member of the Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381 in Abingdon and a member of the Knox County 40 & 8 Voiture #606. He was also a volunteer driver for the Abingdon Senior Citizens Van.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, March 31, 2012 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Mrs. Eleanor Landon will officiate. Burial will follow in the Abingdon Cemetery with military rites conducted by American Legion Post #381. Visitation will be one hour before the service on Saturday at the chapel.
