|Thelma M. Henbest, age 85 of Knoxville, Illinois passed away at 4:55 P.M. on Thursday, April 11, at the Knox County Nursing in Knoxville, Illinois.
She was born on May 25, 1927, the youngest of eight children, to Lyman and Flora (Shaw) Broadfield in Emore, Illinos. She married Donald Otterstrom in 1947 and later Claire A. Tabb in 1954, and in September 11, 1984 she married John R. Henbest. He survives of Knoxville.
She is survived by one daughter, Diane (Tim) Carter of Knoxville and one son, Douglas (Lorrie Kemp) Tabb of Streamwood, Illinois. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Rodney Carter, Jenny Carter and Bethany McGraw, four great granddaughters, one sister, Irene Buck of Dahinda, Illinois and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and four sisters.
She attended Williamsfield schools and graduated from Galesburg High School of Cosmetology in 1963. She operated a beauty salon in her home for many years and was the beautician for 13 years at the former P.E.O. Home in Knoxville, Illinois. She enjoyed visiting with her friends and playing cards in her weekly card club. Her greatest joy was her family. She loved having her grandchildren come home.
She was a member of the Knoxville American Legion Auxillary and the First United Methodist Church of Knoxville.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Knox County Nursing Home for their wonderful care during the past seven months she was there. Having so many health problems these past 21 years, a special thank you also to Dr. Jamie Nesselrode, Dr. Valerie Flacco, Dr. Thomas Whittle and Dr. Robert Hickerson for all their care and concern.
Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, at 10:30 AM April 17, 2013 at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes in Knoxville, Illinois. Rev. David Shreeves officiating. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes in Knoxville, Illinois. Interment will be in the Knoxville Cemetery, Knoxville, Illinois. Memorials may be made to the Friends of Knox County Nursing Home. A Fellowship will be held at the Fellowship Hall at the Hurd Hendricks Funeral Homes in Knoxville, Illinois.
