|Robert D. "Gus" Brooks, 65 of Abingdon, Ill. died at 5:30 a.m. Saturday, April 20, 2013 In Methodist Medical Center, Peoria, Ill.
He was born Nov. 28, 1947 in Galesburg to Leo Dale and Irene Mary Worden Brooks, Sr. He married Vicki Lewis Dec. 5, 2003. She survives. He is survived by two daughters, Katie Lewis, Englewood, Colo. and Sarah (David) Huxtable Galesburg; one son, Eric (Mary Kay) Brock, Knoxville, Ill.; five grandsons, Jeremiah Huxtable, Devin Brock, Cameron Brock, Payton Brock and Eric Brock; one brother, Tom (Peggy) Brooks, Cameron, Ill. and one sister, Mary (Ron) Dickerson, West Minister, Colo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three siblings, Leo Dale Brooks Jr., Richard Eugene Brooks, and Patricia Irene Brooks.
He was employed at AJ Cokel's Welding and Machine Shop and was owner of Brooks Metal Works for 40 years retiring in 2010.
His life revolved around his family and friends. He was passionate about his work. He was a very creative man. He loved cooking and anything with a motor and wheels.
Funeral mass will be 9:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Rev. Deus-Dedit Byabato will officiate. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
