Simpson, Stuart D.
Stuart D. Simpson, age 80 of Port Isabel, Texas, formerly of Galesburg, Illinois.

He was born on March 1, 1930 in Galva, Illinois, the son of Stuart A. and Jeanette E. Johnson Simpson.

He graduated from Altona High School and served 4 years in the United States Navy during the Korean conflict.

He farmed for several years before working for Burlington Truck Lines; then he worked for Knox College for 30 years as Chief Engineer, retiring in 1996.

After retirement, while still farming, he and his wife, Jackie, became winter Texans, and spent 6 months a year in Port Isabel, Texas where he developed his "latent" talents as an avid fisherman. Perhaps his greatest joy was in catching the "big one."

He and Jackie were married in 1953 and he is survived by his spouse and two children, Jeannie (Will) Duncan of Papua, New Guinea and Steven Simpson of Peoria, Illinois; five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; one sister, Kathryn Taylor and one nephew, David Ben Taylor. He was preceded in death by his cherished daughter, Sharon Sparling, who left this earth March 3, 2010 and one sister, Rose Mary.

Graveside Funeral Services will be held on Friday, May 21, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at Oneida Cemetery in Oneida, Illinois with Military Rites. Gary Lundeen officiating.

There will be no Visitation.

Memorials may be made to the JNS Scholarship Fund at Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois. Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home and Crematory in Oneida, Illinois in charge of arrangements. Online condolences and sympathy cards may be sent through www.hurd-hendricksfuneralhome.com.
