|Walter M. Pumfrey, 92, 1469 Clay St. Galesburg died at 6:50 AM Wednesday May 19, 2010 in Heartland Health Care Center.
He was born January 9, 1918 in Maquon, IL the son of Arthur M. and Jessie Halsey Pumfrey. He married Fern C. Riley on September 29, 1940 in Galesburg. She survives.
Also surviving are three sons Marion "Skip" A. (Diane) Pumfrey of Larkspur, CO, Walter "Corkey" M. (Lillian) Pumfrey, JR. of Herculaneum, MO, and James E. Pumfrey of Papillion, Neb; a daughter Carol F. Randol of Stafford, VA; a brother Herbert Pumfrey of Rolla MO; two sisters Eleanor Freberg of Galesburg, Ill, and Elsie Holt of Altona, IL; 11 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. Walter is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, a sister, 1 granddaughter and 1 great grandson.
He worked as a locomotive engineer for Burlington Northern Railroad for 41 1/2 years. He retired June of 1982. He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1936. Walter was a member of the Alpha Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rites of Moline and Mohammed Shrine of Peoria. He also was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star #235, was a 33rd Degree Mason, and a White Shrine #27. Walter was a member of the First United Methodist Church for 69 years and the Methodist Men.
Masonic services are scheduled for 1:00 PM Saturday, May 22, 2010 by the Alpha Masonic Lodge #155 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Funeral services will follow with The Rev. Marilyn Anell officiating. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 PM Friday at the chapel. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens.
