|Shane Michael VanWinkle, 29, a resident of Galesburg and formerly of East Peoria and Abingdon, died at the scene of a single car accident Friday morning, May 28, 2010 in Brimfield Township, rural Peoria County.
He was born on February 4, 1981 in Galesburg, the beloved son of Daryl and Trish (Morris) VanWinkle.
Surviving is his daughter, Zayda VanWinkle, who was his pride and joy; his parents, Daryl and Trish VanWinkle of Abingdon; one sister, Sarah (and Shannon Crisp) VanWinkle of Abingdon; one brother, Christopher VanWinkle of Abingdon; his paternal grandparents, Don and Betty VanWinkle of Galesburg; one niece, Maddison Crisp, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Pat and Pauline Morris and an uncle, Michael VanWinkle.
Shane grew up in Abingdon and graduated from Abingdon High School in 1999. He received a Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering from Hamilton Tech in 2001. He later moved to East Peoria and worked for Caterpillar Inc. in Peoria as a Maintenance Electrician and spent the last six years in the Washington Group at the East Peoria Caterpillar Plant. He recently had moved to Galesburg.
Shane loved spending time with his daughter and attending family gatherings. He loved his Golden Retriever, Casey. He was an avid Bears, White Sox and Blackhawk fan and enjoyed fishing, camping and golfing.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Rev. Monsignor Ernest Pizzamiglio will officiate. Burial will be in the Abingdon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm Monday at the chapel.
