|Mary E. Emminger, 92, 801 W. Martin St., Abingdon, died at 12:55 p.m. Monday, May 3, 2010 in the Care Center of Abingdon.
She was born March 23, 1918 in Deerfield Township, Fulton County, Ill., the daughter of Charles H. and Dollie R. Hale Johnson. She married Lloyd E. Emminger on February 19, 1938. He preceded her in death on March 23, 1997.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews including two nieces who were raised in her home, Nancy C. Johnson Pieper of Bushnell, Ill. and Shirley L. Johnson Simmons of Abingdon, a sister, Betty Kimler of Abingdon, several great nieces and nephews, and two sisters-in-law, Betty Johnson and Mary Johnson, both of Canton, Ill. She was preceded in death by two sisters and seven brothers.
Mary lived in the Smithfield and Cuba areas until age 16 when she moved to Abingdon in 1934. She worked at Blue Bell Manufacturing for 9 years, American Sanitary for 24 years, and at Briggs Manufacturing for 7 years, retiring in 1980.
She was a member of the Abingdon Christian Church and served on the Abingdon Fire Department Auxiliary for 30 years. Mary always enjoyed taking care of her family, especially spending time with her great nieces and nephews
Funeral will be 12 noon Saturday, May 8, 2010 in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Mrs. Eleanor Landon will officiate. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to noon Saturday at the chapel. Burial will be in Abingdon Cemetery.
