Edwin G. Smith, Sr., age 57 of Knoxville, Illinois died on Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at 6:15 AM at Cottage Hospital Galesburg, Illinois.
He was born on Jan. 9, 1953 in Avon, Illinois the son of Clarence and Betty Rae Carly Smith.
Surviving is a daughter: Christina L. (Gary) Williams of Gilson, Illinois
Four sons: Jerid Andrew (Heidi Rowland) Smith of Altona, Illinois, Joshua Glenn Smith of Oklahoma, Mark Joseph (Amanda) Smith of Oklahoma and Gary Michael Smith
Eight Grandchildren.
Girlfriend of eight years: Susan Jean Miller of Knoxville, Illinois
One brother: Giles Edward Smith of Abingdon, Illinois
One stepbrother: Larry Stevens of Wisconsin
One stepsister: Connie Rutledge of Arizona
His Parents, and one son Edwin G. Smith, Jr preceded him in death.
He entered the United States Air Force on April 5, 1971 in Des Moines, Iowa and was discharged as a Sergeant on May 29, 1974 in March Air Force Base in Riverside California.
He was a truck driver for various trucking companies in the area.
Memorial Services will be held on Monday, May 10, 2010 at 12:00 p.m. at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes and Crematory in Knoxville, Illinois. Rev. David Pyell officiating. There will be no Visitation. Burial will be in the Walnut Grove Cemetery, Altona, Illinois, where Military Rites will be conducted y the Ekstedt-Hurr American Legion Post #390 of Altona, Illinois.
