Munson, Dr. K. Everett
Dr. K. Everett Munson passed away peacefully at his home in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, on his 95th birthday, May 22, 2001 following an extended illness. Born in Galesburg, Illinois on May 22, 1916 to Karl A. and Pearl B. Munson, Dr. Munson was the eldest of five siblings.

As a young man, Dr. Munson was called to the Christian ministry as was his beloved wife, Virginia, both of whom were ordained to the ministry in the First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, on their wedding day. Dr. Munson began his ministry while still a student, serving as pastor of numerous Christian Churches in rural Illinois including Augusta, Youngstown, Fandon and Coldbrook, where he and Virginia served from 1940 to 1944. They were then called to Mt. Morris Christian Church, serving from 1944-1949. In December, 1950, they accepted the call to the First Christian Church of Maywood, Illinois where they remained for 36 years until their semi-retirement. During this phase of his life, Dr. Munson and his wife served as Interim Pastors at Villa Park Christian Church, Austin Boulevard Christian Church in Oak Park and several others.

Dr. Munson received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Monmouth College in 1940. He received his graduate theological training at the Divinity School of the University of Chicago, along with additional coursework at Garrett Biblical Institute and the Chicago Lutheran Seminary in Maywood, Illinois. In May of 1959, he was awarded the Honorary Doctor of Divinity by Eureka College, Eureka, Illinois in recognition of his devotion, dedication and years of statewide leadership to Christian ministry and his service to Eureka College as a member of the Board of Trustees. In addition to his more than fifty years of pastoral services, Dr. Munson served many years in a variety of roles on the Board of Trustees of the Disciples Divinity House at the University of Chicago Divinity School.

He is also survived by his three children and their spouses, Dorothy (Munson) Steele and her husband Claude Steele, Carolyn (Munson) Gray and her husband Richard Gray, and Karl L. Munson and his wife Meg Munson. Dr. Munson had seven grandchildren, Jory Steele-Majalya and husband Sidney, Benny Steele and wife Danya Hollins-Steele, Kirsten Cummings and husband Tag, Elise Gray, Kara Kimble and husband Keith, Emily Hendricks and husband John, and Kimberly Welch and husband Andrew. He was also blessed by seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Mildred Van Riper of Kirkwood, Illinois, and a sister-in-law, Pauline "Boots" Winbigler of Monmouth, Illinois and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dr. Munson was predeceased by his loving wife and companion, Virginia (1998), and his sisters Kathryn Winbigler, Ruth Lyons, and Rose Reynolds.

Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday, May 26, 2011 at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Monmouth with Rev. William Crowl officiating. Burial will be in Monmouth Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday at Hoover- Hall Memorial Chapel, Monmouth where his family will be present one hour prior to the services.
