|Harold E. Fahlund, 80, of 1351 W. Carl Sandburg Dr., Galesburg died at 7:29 p.m. Monday, May 2, 2011 in Seminary Manor.
He was born January 24, 1931 in Knoxville, Ill. the son of Axel Frederick and Anna Anderson Fahlund. He first married Sarah Bowman, then Delores Wendlant and later married Helen Coleman.
He is survived by a daughter, Kim Witt of Galesburg; three step daughters, Sandy (Mike) Burkhalter of Galesburg, Sharon Downard of Ft. Myers, Fla., and Diane Strickland of Galesburg; a step son, Bill Wendlant; a sister, Evelyn (Ray) Swearingen of Galesburg; a step brother, Curtis (Theresa) Griffith of Peoria; 10 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, his parents, a daughter, Becky, three brothers and two sisters.
He served in the Army for two years and was stationed in California.
Harold worked as a self employed interior decorator and painter for over 40 years. He attended Knoxville schools and Carl Sandburg College. He was a member of the former Moose Lodge #880 and a member of the Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285. He was a member of First Lutheran Church. He enjoyed his family and friends. He also loved watching the Cubs and Chicago Bears.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. Paul Johnson will officiate. Visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the chapel. Burial will be in Abingdon Cemetery with Military Rites by Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285. Memorials may be made to the family. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
