Smith, Rubie
Mrs. Rubie I. A. Smith, 95, of Wataga, Ill. died at 6:50 AM Saturday, May 28, 2011 in the Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Knoxville, Ill.

She was born on October 10, 1915 in Henderson Grove, Ill to Axel and Adele Maria Sophia Pearson Carlson. She married Everett M. Smith in Henderson Grove, Ill. on December 5, 1937. He preceded her in death on July 24, 1997.

Rubie is survived by a daughter, Melanie (and Jon) Hengehold of rural Wataga; a son, Loyce (and Rebecca) Smith of Wataga; eight grandchildren, Shelly Bankov, Alisa Smith, Wendy Smith, Julie Smith, Kimberly Smith, Chance Hengehold, Christian Hengehold and Hunter Hengehold; and four great grandchildren, Gage Yoder, Denana Prisendorf, Morgan Ackman and Michael Wilson. She was preceded in death by a son, Sheldon Smith on March 17, 1994; a grandson, Jeffrey Smith; two brothers, Clarence Carlson and Carl Gunnar Carlson; and a sister, Elva Swenson.

Rubie was a homemaker. She was a member of Covenant Church where she belonged to the Ruth Church Circle and was a PTO member. She taught Sunday School, served as the Superintendent and Choir Director at the Messiah Lutheran Church in Henderson Grove. She attended the Soperville School in Henderson Grove.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at the Covenant Church, 665 West Dayton Street, Galesburg, IL with Rev. Thomas Ek officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Church. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Burial will be in the Henderson (Ill.) Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Covenant Church or the Good Samaritan Nursing Home. Online condolences may be left at www.h-p-w.com.
