|Donald L. Nyman 81, of Altona, Illinois passed away Saturday, May 5, 2012 at 1:00 P.M. at the OSF Saint Francis Medical Center, Peoria, Illinois.
Don was born on May 4, 1931 in Altona, Illinois, the son of Albert and Alice (Issacson) Nyman. Don was the first graduating class president at the new ROVA High School.
He served in the military from March 7, 1951 to February 22, 1954. In July of 1951 he was sent to Japan then to Korea for one year. He also served in Germany from February 1953 to February 1954.
After the Military Don worked for many different companies including; the Village of Altona, Olson Electric, Carlson Trucking, Landuit Resort and he also worked on a farm.
Don was a member of the Altona American Legion Post #390 and the Wataga Faith Lutheran Church. He enjoyed nature, fishing everyday and he also loved mushroom hunting.
He is survived by his 8 nieces and nephews and special friends, Don and Sharon Jacobson.
Don was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Alice, and his five brothers: Harold, Herman, Ralph, Roy and Dale.
A Graveside Memorial Service will be held on Friday. May 11, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens in Galesburg, Illinois. Rev. David Pyell will be officiating. The Altona American Legion Post #390 will be conducting military honors. Memorial Donations can be made to the family to be designated towards a monument.
