Landon, James
James "Jim" Landon, 56, of Avon passed away Saturday morning, May 12, 2012 at his home.

Jim was born on July 20, 1955, the son of Gerald "Jake" and Cecelia (Newton) Landon. They preceded him in death. He married Cheryl Coupland on November 11, 2011 in Galesburg.
Jim is survived by his wife, Cheryl; one daughter, Jerid Landon of Abingdon; one son, Jake Landon of Abingdon; two step-daughters Macie Coupland of Avon and Chasiti (and Avery) Hills of Fort Hood, Texas; four grandchildren, Hannah, Maddie, and Ella Simkins and Jace Landon all of Abingdon. He is also survived by his sister Debbie (and Jerome) Pankey of Clifton; brother Jerry (and Marlene) Landon of Knoxville, Tennessee; nephews Tyler Pankey of Belleville, Brad Landon and Sam Landon of Knoxville, Tennessee; and nieces Katie Landon Fitch of Knoxville, Tennessee and Whitney Pankey Strang of O'Fallon.

Jim was a lifelong resident of the Abingdon and Avon areas. He attended Abingdon High School and worked at the Abingdon Pottery until its closing. He then worked in construction laborer and was a member of the Laborers' Union Local 538.

Jim was well known as an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and riding his motorcycle. He loved animals and at various times he raised dogs, horses, sheep, rabbits, turtles, fish, snakes, raccoons and homing pigeons. He had a passion for all he did and would entertain family and friends with unique stories with sound effects. He will be missed.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Mrs. Eleanor Landon will officiate. Burial will follow in the Abingdon Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm Tuesday at the chapel.
Memorials may be made to the family. Food and fellowship will follow the service on Wednesday at the Abingdon American Legion. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
