|Donald T. Sheckler, 77, of Avon, IL passed away Sunday April 29, 2012, 9:49 pm at the Prairie City Healthcare Center, Prairie City, IL. He was born November 15, 1934, in Avon, IL the son of Charles William and Muriel Teach Sheckler. He married Barbara Allison on March 14, 1954 in the Federated Church of Avon, IL.
He is survived by his wife of Avon, IL; two brothers Howard Sheckler of Normal, IL and Keith Sheckler of Springfield, IL; one sister Delores Postin of Fairview, IL; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
He attended Council Corners and Ellisville grade schools; he graduated from Spoon River Valley High School in 1952. Don was always interested in livestock and anything pertaining to farm life. He was very active in FFA while in high school, after graduation he stayed home and helped his dad farm. They raised hogs, cattle, and had a large flock of laying hens. He also worked at Peoria Stock Yards. Being with livestock was a job he truly enjoyed. He retired from there in 2005 after years of working there.
Funeral service will be Friday May 4, 2012, 11:00 am at the Federated Church of Avon, IL where Rev. Jon Prain will officiate. Family will receive friends Thursday eve May 3, 2012, from 5:00-7:00 pm at the Corman Memorial Home Avon, IL. Burial will be in the Avon Cemetery, Avon, IL.
