|Inez J. "Inie" Vallas, age 83, Knoxville, Illinois died on Thursday, May 24, 2012 at 8:45 P.M. at Galesburg Cottage Hospital in Galesburg, Illinois.
She was born on March 22, 1929 in Elmwood, Illinois the daughter of John and Elizabeth Bleichner LaFollette. She was raised and educated in the Brimfield and Williamsfield area graduating from Williamsfield High School. She married Spiro "Spike" Vallas on August 5, 1947 in Knoxville, Illinois. He preceded her in death on December 15, 1987.
Surviving are three daughters: Jean (Paul) Schrilla of Addison, Illinois; Sally (Steve) L. Putnam of Knoxville, Illinois; and Kay Rogers of Knoxville, Illinois. One son: Charles (Donna) Vallas of Wheeling, Illinois. Eleven grandchildren, six step grandchildren, and twelve great grandchildren. One sister: Dolly Chaika of Knoxville, Illinois. she was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, three sisters and one great grandchild.
She was a homemaker, in addition worked over the years at Admirals in Galesburg, the Flavor Freeze in Knoxville, The Lantern Restaurant in Knoxville, Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes in Knoxville, Spoon River FS in Knoxville, and Virginia's Ice Cream in Galesburg.
She was the founder of the Mother Goose Club in the late 1950's and then brought it back in the 1970's; Den Mother; and 4-H Leader. She was a member of Knoxville United Methodist Church and Sunday School Teacher.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes in Knoxville, Illinois. Rev. Norman Mendell Officiating. Visitation will be held from 6:00 - 8:00 PM on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes in Knoxville, Illinois. Burial will be in the Knoxville Cemetery, Knoxville, Illinois.
