|Bertha Rose McCormick, 85, of Rosewood Care Center formerly of Wataga, Ill., passed away at 2:50 a.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2012 in OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg, Ill.
She was born October 29, 1926 in Avon, Ill. the daughter of Charlie and Twylia McNeely Serven. She married the love of her life, James E. McCormick Sr. on January 18, 1944 in Dayton, Ohio. He preceded her in death in 1971.
She is survived by two sons, James E. (and Helen) McCormick Jr. of Wataga and Donald L. (and Ginger) McCormick of Oneida, Ill.; four daughters, Claire (and David) VanGunten of Wataga, Ill., Bonnie K. (and Larry) Oelberg of Wataga, Wanda (and Jan) Strom of London Mills, Ill., and Brenda (and Scott) Strom of Wataga; 12 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and seven sisters, Jean (and Eugene) Norris of Chestnut, Ill., Cora Franklin of Galesburg, Stella (and William) Whitacre of Dunnellon, Fla., Opal Cozadd of Galesburg, Marjorie Douglas of Galesburg, Linda Johnson of Knoxville, Ill., and Leta (and Jim) Fell of Smithshire, Ill. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Climeta Joyce Bryant.
Bertha was a cook for Galesburg School District 205 for many years. She was raised and educated in rural Fulton County. Bertha enjoyed cooking, gardening, knitting, crocheting and crafting. She also enjoyed playing cards with her grandchildren.
Funeral will be 11 am Friday, June 1, 2012 in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. James Ecklund will officiate. Visitation will be 9:00-11:00 am Friday at the chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Galesburg. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
