Cole, Wallace Reid
Wallace Reid Cole, 92, Galesburg, IL died on Tuesday, April 30, 2013. Wallace was born February 5, 1921, in Williamsfield, Illinois, to Stephen Cole and Irene (McCellan) Cole. He married his beloved wife of sixty-seven years, Maedell Ann Mabry (Cole) on November 2, 1945 in Texarkana, Texas.

He graduated from Williamsfield High School and later served in the Air Force from 1941-1945. While in the military he was based in Anchorage, Alaska and rose to the rank of Sargent. Upon release from the military, he was employed as an inspector at Gale Products, Galesburg, IL for 42 years. In his lifetime, Wallace proudly attained the highest order of Masonic degree, the 33rd degree.

He loved to sing, recite poetry, tell a good story and attend sporting and social events with his children and grandchildren. He particularly enjoyed beautiful cars and a good home-cooked meal. Surviving are his daughter Gaye Conlon (Carl), Knoxville, IL and son, Gaylord Bud Cole (Connie Thurman), Galesburg, Illinois; 5 grandchildren, Tawna Connour (James), Erin Nelson, Jennifer Scwallie (Jayson), Kelsey Platt (Corey) and Leigh Lucas-Clay (Jason Clay); 6 great-grandchildren, Nicole Nelson, Dustin Nelson, Coty Connour, Justin Scwhallie, Cadence Clay and Hudson Platt and one great great-grandchild, Nevaeh Mayberry.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Bernard Cole.

The family will hold a private celebration of Wallace's life at a later date. The Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home and Crematory is assisting the family. Online condolences can be made at www.hurd-hendricksfuneralhome.com
