|Wendolyn M. "Wendy" Poland, 66, of Galesburg, died at 1:26 a.m. Thursday, May 16, 2013 in OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
She was born December 26, 1946 in Galesburg the daughter of Wendell and A. Lucille (Austin) Lewis.
She is survived by two sons, Dr. Bradley W. (and Jan) Poland of Monroe, Iowa and Kenneth D. (and Valerie) Wallace of Highland, Ind.; eight grandchildren, Connor, Tanner, and Hunter Poland, Samantha Kikkert, Paige, Piper, and Faith Harrison and Cooper Wallace; and two brothers, Gilbert (and Linda) Lewis of Maquon, Ill. and Jon Gallagher of Elmwood, Ill. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Wendy was a beautician at OT Johnson, and aide at Cottage Hospital, and later was a Mental Health Technician II at Galesburg Research Hospital.
She graduated from Knoxville High School in 1965 and Galesburg School of Beauty Culture in 1966. Wendy was a member of First Church of God. She was active with the Rental Housing Board of Appeals and Diabetes Advisory Team Committee. Wendy volunteered with the Knox College Theatre Department, where she did hair. She volunteered with the GHS Band Parents and was in charge of the marching band uniforms for six years. She enjoyed sewing and was a talented seamstress.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Monday, May 20, 2013 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. Dennis McQuown will officiate. Burial will follow in East Linwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the chapel. Memorials may be made to American Diabetes Association or American Heart Association. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
