Kester, Paul Dickson
Paul Dickson Kester, age 91, of Galesburg, Illinois formerly of Oneida, Illinois died at 4:58 A.M. on Thursday, May 16, 2013 at Methodist Medical Center, Peoria, Illinois.

He was born November 6, 1921 in Cottage Hospital, Galesburg, Illinois, the only child of Charles Dickson Kester and Karin Caroline Meline Kester. He was baptized on September 6, 1922 at the First Lutheran Church in Galesburg, Illinois and confirmed there on May 10, 1936. He attended Lincoln Elementary, Lombard Jr. High School and one year at Galesburg High School before moving to Galva, Illinois with his parents in 1937. He graduated from Galva High School in May of 1939 and then attended the University of Illinois for three semesters before entering military service with the US Army. Paul served from September 1, 1942 to February 11, 1946 with fifteen months of over-seas duty in England, France, Belgium and Germany. Soon after receiving his honorable discharge Paul met and married in the Messiah Lutheran Church in Galva, Illinois Beverly Jean Martin from Toulon, Illinois

He then continued this education on the GI Bill at the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana. They resided in Galva, Rock Island, and East Moline, Illinois. He retired as a budget officer at the Rock Island Arsenal on November 6, 1981 and moved to Cherokee Village, Arkansas.

Sixteen years later in May of 1997, Paul & Jean returned to live in a house they purchased in Oneida, Illinois thus completing the cycle beginning with Pauls great grandfather, grandfather and father, who lived in Oneida until his marriage & then moved to Galesburg, Illinois.

Surviving are his children, the youngest, Karin who lives in Downer's Grove, Illinois, Charles who lives in Lake Forest Park, Washington, Paula who lives in Mount Vernon, Washington, and Stephen, their eldest who resided in Salem, Arkansas until his death on October 20, 2006. Also surviving are six grandsons, one favorite granddaughter, three great granddaughters and one great grandson.

Cremation Rites will be accorded. Memorial services will be held at a later date at the Rock Island National Cemetery. Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes & Crematory in Knoxville is in charge of arrangements. There are no mention of memorials.
