Tomlin, Robert M.
Robert M. Tomlin, 93, of Galesburg, died at 10:07 p.m. Tuesday, May 21, 2013 in OSF St. Mary Medical Center.

He was born March 1, 1920 in Monmouth, Ill. the son of Walter H. and Mabel (Jamison) Tomlin. He married Marion J. Stevenson on May 27, 1950 in Warren County.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 63 years, Marion; three sons, Robert M. (and Lois) Tomlin of Soquel, Calif., William M. (and Debra) Tomlin of Galesburg, and Gary G. Tomlin of Galesburg; a daughter, Cynthia Sally (and Steve) Duncan of Vancouver, Wash.; nine grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and a brother, Don E. Tomlin of Monmouth. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers; and a sister.

Robert worked for the Intra State Telephone Company for 36 years, retiring as a central office supervisor in 1983. He worked as a central office contractor to a number of area phone companies and was a contributor to the growth of the New Windsor Phone Company. He graduated from Monmouth High School in 1938. He was a member of First Christian Church and Alpha Masonic Lodge #155, both in Galesburg.

Robert served in the United States Navy during World War II from 1940 to 1947. He was stationed in South America and Alaska.

He was a wonderful husband and father who provided well for his family, who taught correct principles by example.

He loved fishing, fixing things, and the company of his friends and family. In retirement, he traveled to Russia, China, and the Middle East.

Cremation will be accorded. Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. Greg Fitch will officiate. There will be no visitation. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to First Christian Church. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
