Cramer, Marvin E.
Marvin E. Cramer of RR Abingdon, died at 3:45 am Thursday, May 23, 2013 at home with his wife and daughter by his side.

He was born in Delong, the son of Harry L. and Edna L. (Burnett) Cramer. He married Susan Ann Wynkoop.

Marvin is survived by his wife Sue; one daughter, Brigitte (and Ray) Ziegler of Victoria; three grandchildren, Megan Ziegler, Marissa Ziegler and Jacob Ziegler; two sisters, Gwen King of Shelbyville and Shirley Blust of Knoxville; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son Brent Marvin Cramer, three brothers and two sisters.

He attended Abingdon High School and was a member of the undefeated football team for the school year of 1948-1949. He served in the Army from 1951 to 1954 and was stationed at Fort Bragg in North Carolina, Fort Benning in Georgia and Fort Campbell in Kentucky. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was a paratrooper in The 508th Regimental Combat Team, also known as "The Red Devils." He was a member of the Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381. He worked for the Knox County Sheriff's Department in the 1960's and later at Maytag in Galesburg. He was of the Protestant faith.

Cremation was accorded. Graveside service with military rites will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at the Boydstun-Dawdy Cemetery, Indian Point Township, south of Abingdon. There will be no visitation. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
