Valey, Kenneth Warren
Kenneth Warren Valey, 64, a resident of Galesburg for over 50 years died on Sunday, June 6, 2010.

He lived at the Galesburg State Mental Health Center and St. Mary's Square Living Center and attended training at Knox County Council for Developmental Disabilities (KCCDD).

Kenneth was born February 26, 1946 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Jean Guillaudeu Valey and Valentin Valey. Kenneth is survived by two brothers: Wayne Valey of Superior, Co. and Curtis Valey (Annette) of Springfield, Oh. and three sisters: Carolyn Valey (Richard Drozdz) of Burr Ridge, Il.; Mara Lyn Valey of Santa Cruz, Ca.; and Ingrid Valey (Ronald Coss) of Moorestown, N. J. Also surviving is his treasured extended family of friends from St. Mary's Square and KCCDD. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Birgitta Valey and a brother, Steven Valey.

Kenneth's interests focused on dining at local restaurants and attending special events, such as Railroad Days and Knox County Fair. He enjoyed receiving letters from and writing letters to family and friends. At KCCDD, Kenneth worked hard at math, reading and handicrafts and enjoyed special projects, such as: knives, forks and spoons; refrigerator wheels; and shredding. Kenneth was well known for not being able to pass a vending machine without wishing that he could operate it. Most of all, Kenneth will be remembered for his helpful spirit and his special gift for providing unconditional love.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 9, 2010, in the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. David Kramer will officiate. Visitation will be 11:00-11:30 a.m. at the chapel.
