Streight, Michael K.
Michael "Mike" K. Streight, 61, of Galesburg, died at 10:47 a.m. Thursday, June 10, 2010 in the VA Medical Center, Iowa City, Iowa.

He was born December 11, 1948 in Monmouth, Ill., the son of Delmar E. and Doris J. Neally Streight. He married Shirley I. Sparks on May 1, 1976 in Galesburg.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley of Galesburg, his mother, Doris Streight of Galesburg, a son, Jeremy (and Brooke) Streight of Monmouth, a daughter, Krista (and Richard) Tran of Kankakee, Ill., his granddaughter, Kayla Streight, who he especially enjoyed spending time with, a brother, Bill (and Karen) Streight of Chatham, Ill., his mother-in-law, Velma Sparks of Montezuma, Iowa, a sister-in-law, Kay (and Craig) Latcham of Montezuma, five nieces and nephews, and five great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and father-in-law.

Mike worked in human services at Warren Achievement in Monmouth, the Galesburg Rescue Mission, and most recently at Western Illinois Service Coordination. He graduated from Monmouth High School, attended Northern Illinois University, and graduated from Monmouth College in 1977.

He was an active member of First Church of the Nazarene in Galesburg, where he was a Sunday school teacher, president of Missions, and on the church board. He was a member of Gideon's International and was involved with the Guardianship Advocacy. Mike was very interested in genealogy, keeping up with family history on his computer. He enjoyed watching the History Channel, fishing, reading, and his dog.

Mike served in the United States Air Force from 1970 to 1974 with the Signal Intelligence Unit and was stationed in Brindisa, Italy.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 15, 2010 in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. Ron Scarlett will officiate. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the chapel. Burial will be in Monmouth City Cemetery where military honors will be provided. Memorials may be made to the First Church of the Nazarene or to Gideon's International.
