Robert H. "Sam" Wexler, age 90, of Galesburg, Illinois died on Sunday, June 13, 2010 at 10:23 A.M. at his residence in Galesburg, Illinois.
He was born on July 1, 1919 in Milton, Iowa, the son of Simon "Sam" and Sarah Langer Wexler.
Surviving are:
One niece: Jean (Neal) Fink of Atlanta, Georgia
One nephew: Richard (Maureen) Adelman of Miami, Florida
Great Nieces and Nephews: Jodi Halpert, Jeffery Fink, Jenny Rose Adelman, and Andrea Adelman
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister: Helen Adelman and a special friend: Marian Carlson.
He was raised and educated in Galesburg, Illinois graduating from Galesburg High School in 1937. He graduated from the University of Illinois with a Bachelor of Science.
He served in the United States Army Air Force during World War II in the 986th Air Engine Squad from June 2, 1942 until January 9, 1946. He was an airplane instrument mechanic and attained the rank of Sergeant. He received one Overseas Service Bar, World War II Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, American Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and one Service Stripe.
He was a partner in Grand Motor Sales Honda Shop in Galesburg, Illinois. He enjoyed music and dancing.
Cremation Rites will be accorded.
Memorial Services will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Saturday, June 26, 2010 at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes and Crematory in Knoxville, Illinois with Visitation from 12:30 to 1:30 PM. Rev. Marilyn Anell officiating. Private Graveside Services will be held in Brookside Cemetery in Galesburg, Illinois at a later date.
