|Samuel E. James, 60, 276 N. Ivan Ave., Galesburg, died at 5:48 p.m. Friday, June 25, 2010 in Greater Peoria Specialty Hospital.
He was born April 16, 1950 in Chicago, the son of Johnnie and Fredonia Coleman James. He married Maria E. Thomas on September 3, 1997 in Galesburg. She survives.
Also surviving is a son, Earl A. Strickland of Galesburg, a daughter, Angela Thomas of Galesburg, seven grandchildren, his mother, Fredonia Coleman of Las Vegas, Nev., a brother, Jesse (and Ida) Connors of Las Vegas, Nev., and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by a son, James Lamont Thomas and a sister, Regina Alexander.
Samuel was a clerk for the Statesville Correctional Center in Joliet for 25 years before retiring. He graduated from Hirsch High School in 1968 and attended the College of Lake County. He was of Baptist faith. He was an avid bowler and was on the State of Illinois team. Samuel loved watching Jeopardy and liked cooking.
Funeral will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday, July 3, 2010 in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. Cheryl Wilson will officiate. Visitation will be 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the chapel.
