|James Robert "Bob" Jennings, 73, of Abingdon died at 7:17 pm Friday, May 28, 2010 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center emergency room.
He was born on October 18, 1936 in Toledo, Ohio, the son of Malcolm Robert and Willie Virginia (Smith) Jennings. He married Gretchen P. Allert on February 16, 1980 in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Bob is survived by his wife, Gretchen Allert; two sisters, Jeanette Mikell and Linda Sue Gyselinck both of St. Petersburg, Florida.
A large part of Bob's life involved his service to his country. He retired from the US Navy after serving for 24 years. He later was employed by the federal government in the program analysis department at the Naval Sea Systems Command in Washington D.C. Bob was most proud of his work in the development and training of the Royal Saudi Arabian Navy Program.
Cremation was accorded. Celebration of life service will be held at 7:00 pm Monday, June 14, 2010 at the Abingdon United Methodist Church. Rev. Paul Dinges will officiate. There will be no visitation. Military rites will be accorded by the Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381. Inurnment will be at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel is in charge of arrangements for the family.
