Lomax, George O.
George O. Lomax, 84, of Abingdon, Ill. died 12:35 p.m. Sunday, June 19, 2011 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.

He was born March 31, 1927 in St. Augustine, Ill. to Claud and Winifred Jennings Lomax. He married Anita L. Stablein 1955 in Galesburg. She preceded him in death February 18, 2011. Surviving is a daughter, Susan (and William) Mast of Delaware, Ohio; three grandchildren, Kristin Mast of Chicago, Ill., Karin (and Sky) Mast-Henning of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii and William Mast of Montrose, Colo.; and a great-grandchild, Bradley Mast. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Claud, William and Marvin. George was an electrician for Outboard Marine Corporation division of Gale Products in Galesburg for 30 years and retired in 1983. He graduated from Abingdon High School, Abingdon, Ill. and attended University of Illinois. He was a WWII veteran serving in the U.S. Navy as a Seaman First Class. George enjoyed elk hunting with his family in Idaho and salmon fishing with his wife and family in Michigan.

Cremation will be accorded. Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, June 25, 2011 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. James Ecklund will officiate. Visitation will be 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the chapel. Burial will be in Abingdon Cemetery with military rites by the Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285.
