Wier, Samuel B.
Samuel B. "Sam" Wier, age 68, a resident of Galesburg and formerly of the Abingdon area, died at 10:44 am Friday, June 24, 2011 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.

He was born on November 13, 1942 at Cottage Hospital in Galesburg, the son of G. Albert and Lois M. (Hoyt) Wier. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Ronald A. Wier.

Sam is survived by his sister, Marilyn (and Wayne) Boydstun of RR St. Augustine; one niece, Janet Powell of St. Augustine; three nephews, Terry Boydstun of Abingdon, John (and Debby Jo) Boydstun of RR Berwick and Steve Boydstun of RR Galesburg; six great-nieces, four great-nephews, three great-great-nieces and one great-great-nephew.

He graduated from Abingdon High School in 1960. He then attended Iowa State University. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War and was stationed in Germany. He had been employed by Cargill Grain Company and later worked as a consultant for a cattle feed lot in Hastings, Kansas. Sam had also resided in Iowa and Sisseton, South Dakota.

He was a member of the Abingdon Christian Church. He was a member of the Alpha Masonic Lodge and was a Shriner. His hobbies included keeping up with his family and visiting, as Sam knew no strangers.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Burial will follow in the Abingdon Cemetery with Military Rites by Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381. Visitation will be 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Monday at the chapel with a Masonic Service at 7:00 pm.
