Peters, Barbara A.
Barbara A. Peters, 83, of Galesburg, died at 12:05 p.m. Sunday, June 3, 2012 in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.

She was born February 13, 1929 in Galesburg, the daughter of Harold and Margaret Meldrum Larson. After the death of her father at a young age, Barbara was raised by her mother and step father, James Robinson. She married James W. Peters on December 22, 1950 at the First Presbyterian Church in Galesburg.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Jim; a son, Jamie (and Jan) Peters of Galesburg; two grandchildren, Elizabeth (and Andrew) Cecil of Solon, Iowa and John Peters of Galesburg; a great grandson, James Cecil; and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and step father.

Barbara was a secretary, working for attorney Bob Eagan and then for L.D. Johnson Insurance Agency, which became Miller Dredge. She retired in 1991. Barbara was a 70 year member of First Presbyterian Church, where she was active with the womens group, the Sewing Circle, and Bible study. She was a member of the Eastern Star Chapter in Sparta, Ill. Barbara especially enjoyed trips to Sanibel Island, where she collected miniature seashells, and flower gardening. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandson. Barbara was known to all as a woman with a generous spirit and a willingness to help others.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 6, 2012 in First Presbyterian Church. Rev. Sarah Parker and Rev. David Parker will officiate. Visitation will be 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Cremation will be accorded following the funeral with burial later in Caledonia Cemetery in Sparta. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church.
