|Kathleen Jane "Kit" Emery, 86, of Galesburg, died at 10:50 pm Monday, June 4, 2012 in OSF St. Mary Medical Center.
She was born August 1, 1925 in Abingdon, Ill. the daughter of Larry M. and Zoe L. Stegall Billings. She married Frederick W. Emery III on July 7, 1946 in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on September 30, 1992.
Survivors include her daughter, Jane A. (Bill) Dickerson of Dahinda, Ill.; her grandson, Mark (Giovanna) Lear of Chesterfield, Mo and a granddaughter, Jodi (Jon) Crabiel of Indianapolis, Ind.; two step granddaughters, Jill (fiance' Chris McCord) Turner of Dallas, Texas and Julie (John) Asplund of Farmington, Ill; six great grandchildren, Wyatt, Vivienne, Vance, Cooper, Ainsley Lear and Luke Crabiel; and three step great grandchildren, Isaac, Elijah and Clara Rose Asplund. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two sisters, Geraldine Bauer and Margaret Ruth Smith.
Kit worked for the Admiral/Maytag Corporation in the payroll department for over 20 years, retiring in 1972. She was a volunteer and board member for the Western Illinois Chapter American Red Cross and the Disaster Services. She was a member and driver for the American Cancer Society, member of the women's business sorority Epsilon Sigma Alpha and a member of the March of Dimes. She was an active band parent, band grandparent and served as a Girl Scout Leader. She was a member of First Lutheran Church and Trinity Lutheran Church, serving on several committees. She was very active with her husband, Fred, helping with the USS Coast Guard Reunion Group. She enjoyed traveling with her family and camping with her grandchildren. Kit devoted her life to taking care of others, especially her family.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 am Saturday, June 9, 2012 at Trinity Lutheran Church. Rev. Dr. Tom Larsen will officiate. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 pm Friday, June 8, 2012 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
