Powell, Margaret M.
Margaret M. "Peggy" Powell, 88, of 2345 N. Seminary St., Galesburg, Ill. died at 2:50 AM Sunday, June 10, 2012 at Seminary Manor.

Peggy was born June 20, 1923 in Chicago, the daughter of Louis and Nonie Wallensack Mueller. She married John A. Powell on October 19, 1946 in Berwyn, Ill. He preceded her in death on October 1, 2004.

Surviving is a son, John (and Lisa Tebbe) W. Powell, of Ferguson, Mo.; a daughter, Jane Carr, of Galesburg; four grandchildren, Erin (Dave) Hill, Adam (Brandy) Carr, Kathryn (Jon Backs) Carr and Joseph (Nikki) Carr; and seven great grandchildren: Madelyn, Brenna and Colin Hill; Ashlyn, Grace and Addyson Carr; and Noah Carr. She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, Lois Levin, Dolly Martin and William Mueller, and her son-in-law, Vernon O. Carr.

Peggy was raised in Berwyn, a suburb of Chicago. She lived in Olney, Ill. and in Winter Haven, Fla. until 2004, when she moved to Galesburg. She attended St. Mary's High School in Chicago, where she was educated by the BVMs, graduating in 1941. She worked as a secretary for Public Service in Chicago for five years.

Peggy was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Galesburg and was active various parishes throughout her life. As a volunteer, she worked in schools and visited shut-ins and the disabled. Peggy loved spending time with her family and friends, playing bridge and enjoying a good drink.

Funeral Mass will be held 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Monsignor Ernest E. Pizzamiglio officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 to 12:00 noon Wednesday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery in Galesburg. Memorials may be made to Hospice Compassus.
