|Laura, G. McCurry, age 84 of Abingdon died at 6:23 pm Thursday, June 14, 2012 at the Care Center of Abingdon.
She was born on August 21, 1927 in Kings Mountain, Kentucky, the daughter of Hobart and Lila (Shelton) Stonesifer. She married Jack H. McCurry on December 28, 1952 in Georgia. He preceded her in death on December 30, 2010. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two sons, Jeffrey L. McCurry on February 24, 1998 and Jack A. McCurry on April 7, 1998, and one sister, Velma McNally.
Laura is survived by two sons, Mark S. (and Jeannie) McCurry and Chris M. (and Sherie) McCurry both of Abingdon; one daughter, Lisa A. (and Mike) Aitken of New Port Richey, Florida; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Iva Ratliff in the state of Ohio and nieces and nephews.
She graduated from Unicoi County High School in Erwin, Tennessee. She was a homemaker. She had also worked at the former Abingdon Industries and later at Industrial Filter and Pumps in Abingdon. She had lived in Johnson City, Tennessee, Cincinnati, Ohio, Detroit, Michigan, Monroe, North Carolina, New Port Richey, Florida and Abingdon, Illinois. She was of the Methodist faith. Her hobbies included sewing and quilting. She also cherished her time spent with her family.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm Monday, June 18, 2012 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Rev. Paul Dinges will officiate. Burial will follow in the Abingdon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Sunday at the chapel.
