Johnson, D. Diane
D. Diane Johnson, age 65 of Abingdon, died at 6:48 am Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at her home.

She was born on March 4, 1947 in Henry County, the daughter of Dale V. and Teresa Cleo (Vannoy) Townsend. She married Jackie D. Lynch. She later married Max L. Johnson on January 31, 1986 in Berwick.

Diane is survived by her husband, Max; her children, April (and Todd) Markword of rural Rio, Mark (and Mary) Johnson of Galesburg and Michele (and Randy) Watkins of rural Abingdon; four grandchildren, Brandy (and Quincy) Hamilton, Kolton Johnson, Skylee Markword and Gracie Markword; one brother, Richard (and Carol) Townsend of Texas; and one sister-in-law, Shirley Townsend of Texas. She is also survived by two special dogs, JR and Heidi.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Norman Townsend and two sisters, Janice Tucker and Mary Woodruff.

She graduated from Costa High School in Galesburg in 1965. She worked at Gates Rubber Company for 30 years, retiring in 2003. She was a former member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Galesburg. She was a member and past president of the Jolly Grandmother's Club, a member of the Birthday Club, and a member of the Quinn's Hens. Her hobbies included watching football, NASCAR and ultimate fighting and boxing.

Diane was a former city alderman and served on the Abingdon City Council representing Ward 2. She was appointed chairman of the police committee while serving and she was very proud of that honor.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Friday, June 22, 2012 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Mrs. Eleanor Landon will officiate. Burial will follow in the Abingdon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 am to 11:00 am Friday at the chapel.
