Swanson, John A.
John A. Swanson, age 84, of Monmouth, Illinois formerly of Knoxville, Illinois died at 5:40 A.M. on Sunday, June 24, 2012 at Monmouth Nursing Home in Monmouth, Illinois.

He was born on October 3, 1927 in Hale Township, Monmouth, Illinois the son of Arthur and Nellie Johnson Swanson. He graduated from Little York High School. He married Lois C. Warrensford on March 24, 1957 in Oneida, Illinois. She preceded him in death on February 8, 2006.

Surviving is a daughter: Sharon (Donald, Jr.) Watkins of London Mills, Illinois.
Three Grandchildren and Seven Great Grandchildren. One sister Marjorie Swanson of Monmouth, Illinois. His parents, wife and one sister preceded him in death.

He served in the United States Armed Forces from February 15, 1952 until September 26, 1953 during the Korean War Conflict, then the National Guard. He received the Korean Service Medal w/3 Bronze Service Stars, National Defense Services Medal, and the United Nations Service Medal.

He farmed the family farms in Warren County and sold Black Angus Cattle until 1976 when he moved to Knoxville, Illinois. He also worked for Spoon River FS; Custodian at the Knoxville High School in Knoxville and the Galesburg Mental Health in Galesburg, Illinois until they closed.
He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church of Knoxville, Illinois.
He was active in the Warren County 4-H.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, June 28, 2012 at 10:30 A.M. at Grace Lutheran Church in Knoxville, Illinois. Rev. Michel D. Clark. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes in Knoxville, Illinois. Interment will be at the Westfall Cemetery in Rural Victoria, Illinois with Military Rites. Memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church or Knoxville High School Legacy Board Fund.
