|James L. Ellis, 90, of Galesburg, Ill. died at 12:55PM Friday, June 1, 2012 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
He was born on October 16, 1921 in Rutledge, Mo. to Loyd and Hallie Milburn Ellis. He married Doris Brasher in Birmingham, Ala. on October 21, 1944.
James is survived by his wife, Doris of Galesburg; a son, Wayne and Charlene Ellis of Alexis, Ill.; a daughter, Sheila Martin of Malvern, Ark.; a brother, Lavon Ellis of Dallas City, Ill.; four grandchildren, Angie McMahill, Stacey Martin, Shawn Ellis and Shane Ellis and five great-grandchildren Alicia Wilson, Mitchell Whitman, Hannah Ellis, Brenna Ellis and Brian J. Ellis. He was preceded in death by a sister.
He served in the U.S. Army Medical Corp during World War II. He was a member of the 242nd Rainbow Division being stationed in Germany, France and Austria.
He worked at Gates Corporation for 17 years, retiring in 1982.
Entombment services will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 5, 2012 in the Oak Lawn Memorial Garden Mausoleum with Rev. William Miller officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post #285. Visitation will be 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel.
