|Thomas P. Campbell, 68, of Galesburg, died at home with his family at 8:52 p.m. Friday, June 14, 2013.
He was born March 20, 1945 in Oakland, Ill. the son of Paul M. and Dorothy E. (Davison) Campbell. He married Sandy Magnuson in 1963. He later married Lynn Bruget in 1973. In 1982, he married Susie Swanson.
He is survived by his wife, Susie; five children, Patricia Campbell, Brent Campbell, Bryan (and Jenee) Campbell, Erin Campbell, and Richard (and Tina) Swanson; a brother, Jerry (and Marty) Campbell; a sister, Betty (and Doug) Anderson; and 13 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Larry Campbell; and a sister, Kay Goff.
Tom was a Teamster truck driver for 41 years. He received his Teamster card at the age of 18. He drove a truck for Brown's Specialty, Burlington Chicago Cartage, Tobler's, and Maytag, where he drove for 20 years until their closure in 2005. By retirement, Tom had driven 3,000,000 miles. Tom had also worked for Burlington Refrigeration Express (better known as "The Ice House") and leased the Owen's Gas Station on Henderson Street for a time. Over a span of 35 years, he owned and operated Big 4 Bike Shop and Tom's Repair. Tom could work on motorcycles, cars, and everything else, and was a major Chicago Bears, Bulls, and White Sox fan.
Tom was a member of the Galesburg Motorcycle Club and the AMA for 25 years. He raced go-carts for 12 years and Honda motorcycles at Cordova and Havana. He rode motorcycles for 50 years and also raced roller skates.
Funeral will be 10 AM Thursday June 20, 2013 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. Paul Frinsthal officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-8 PM at the chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Hospice Compassus.
