|Donald Charles Staton, age 82, of Dahinda, Illinois passed away Sunday, June 23, 2013 at 4:25 PM at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg, Illinois.
Donald was born on December 21, 1930 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Edward Lavergne and Lillian (Johnson) Staton. He was a graduat of Depaul University. Donald proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army. He married Grace Ziino on August 4, 1956 in Chicago, Illinois. She preceded him in death on January 16, 2005.
Donald is survived by his children Laverne (Nick) Masterson of Arlington Heights, Illinois, Cynthia (Matthew Schalz) Wise of Woodstock, Illinois and Donald J. Staton of Charlotte, North Carolina, 5 granddaughters, 3 sisters; Charlene Zelko of Arizona, Caroline Kelly of New Jersey, Marilyn Melkey of Indiana.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and brother, Benjamin Staton.
Donald was employed as an accountant by the Kemper Insurance and later the Certified Grocery. When he retired in 1993 he and his wife Grace moved to Oak Run where he served on several committees. He was a member of the Methodist Men's Club. He enjoyed making stained glass and watching sports.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 26, 2013 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home in Knoxville, Illinois. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, June 27, 2013 at 10:30 AM at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Brimfield, Illinois. Interment will take place at the Trenton Cemetery in rural Dahinda, Illinois. Memorial donations may be left to the Dahinda United Methodist Church or to St. James Catholic Church in Williamsfield.
