Scherer, Douglas J
Douglas J. Scherer, 68, of North Las Vegas, Nev., formerly of Galesburg, Ill., died Thursday, June 27, 2013 at home.

He was born Oct. 17, 1944 in West Point, Neb. to Warren Max Scherer and Nitha Candace (Bowman) Scherer. He married Debbie (Clarke-Walker) Bolin on Oct. 27, 1989 in Galesburg.

Douglas is survived by his wife, Debbie; his brother Terry (and Janet) Scherer of West Point, Neb.; four sons, David (and Tricia) Scherer of Denver, Colo., Gene Scherer of Madison, Ala., Mark (and Kim) Scherer of Goodyear, Ariz., and Troy Walker of San Diego, Calif.; and one daughter, Julie Walker of Las Vegas, Nev. He had 11 grandchildren, three nephews, one niece and his aunt, Audrey (Danner) (and Bob) Nelson of Galesburg, Ill. His stepfather, Wilbur Danner; father, Warren Max Scherer; and mother, Nitha Candace (Danner) Horst preceded him in death.

Douglas graduated from Galesburg High School in 1962. He worked part-time at Lucky Boy Bakery from 1958 to 1962. He then joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1962. He served in Vietnam until 1965. After the Marine Corps, he worked as a T.V. technician for Sears until he joined his stepfather, Wilbur Danner, at Danners Fremont House Bakery.

Douglas and Debbie moved to Las Vegas in March of 2003.

He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, AA and a life member of the American Legion Post 285 of Galesburg.

He was loved and will be missed.

Visitation will be 11 a.m. to noon Friday, July 5, 2013 followed immediately by funeral services at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Father Andy Ainley will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens with military rites. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the family. Online condolences may be made at
