|Charles Evan Butcher, 93, 697 Pine St., Galesburg, died at 12:01 p.m. Thursday, July 8, 2010 at home.
He was born March 1, 1917 in Murphysboro, Ill., the son of Edward and Jennie Hagler Butcher. He married Kathleen L. Hudgel in 1941 in Galesburg. She survives.
Also surviving is a daughter, Charlene Tyler of Morton, Ill., three grandchildren, Charla Reed of Galesburg, Travis Chandler of Monmouth, Ill., and Gina Marks of Morton, four great grandchildren, and a brother, Alden Butcher of Collinsville, Ill. He was preceded in death by a son, Scott E. Butcher.
Charles was a head chef for over 40 years, working in Anaheim, Calif., at the Blackhawk Hotel in Moline, and then at the Sheraton Hotel in Galesburg. He retired in March 1982.
Charles served in the United States Army for four years during World War II. He was a member of Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285.
Cooking was his hobby.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Monday, July 12, 2010 in Memorial Park Cemetery. Rev. Jim Ecklund will officiate and military rites will be accorded by Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285.
