Christopher A. Farrar died June 18, 2010 at 1:45 p.m. in Regional Medical Center of San Jose, Calif. after a very brief illness.
He was born in Galesburg Cottage Hospital, Galesburg, Ill. August 15, 1966.
Surviving are his wife, Stephanie Ashley Farrar of San Jose, Calif., his parents, Charles H. and Lee Ann Orendorff Farrar of Galesburg and his sister, Courtney (John) Young of Roselle, Ill.
Christopher attended schools in Galesburg and graduated from Knox College, where he was a member of the Siwash Battalion of ROTC at Knox. He was active in Scouting, earning the Arrow of Light as well as achieving the Eagle rank. In 1989, he volunteered to help the Red Cross following an earthquake in California and delivered food to highway workers between San Jose and Santa Cruz.
In January 1990, he relocated to California and worked with assessment of ground water pollution. Ten years ago he began working with Varian Instruments (now Agilent Technologies) as a field service engineer where he continued until his death.
Chris chose to be an organ/tissue donor and his wishes were honored.
Cremation was accorded. Visitation will be 10 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 17, 2010 followed by a memorial service at 10:30 a.m. at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Fellow Eagle Scout Rob Buck will deliver the eulogy. A luncheon follows at noon at Q's Cafe', 329 Main St., Galesburg, Ill. Memorials may be made to the Galesburg Rotary Club Foundation and are being set aside for a memorial Rain Garden for Christopher at Galesburg’s Rotary Park.
