Perkins, Jimmy A.
Jimmy A. Perkins, 79, of Galesburg, died at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 13, 2010 in Heartland Health Care Center.

He was born October 30, 1930 in Rushville, Ill., the son of Guy R. and May Purdue Perkins.

He is survived by two sons, Curtis (and Christine) Perkins of Brandon, Miss. and Jeffrey Perkins of Jackson, Miss. and one grandson, Joshua Perkins. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Carolyn Goodwin, and a sister.

Jimmy served in the United States Air Force for 20 years from 1948 to 1968. He served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. After retirement from the Air Force, he was an insurance salesman for three years and then owned and operated the Hearing Aid Center in Galesburg for six years. He retired in 1987.

He was raised in Rushville and graduated from Bushnell (Ill.) High School in 1948. During his military career, he moved to a number of places and has been in Galesburg since 1981.

Jimmy was a member of V.F.W. Post 2287 and Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285, both of Galesburg. He loved music and playing the guitar. He was of Methodist faith.

Cremation will be accorded. No visitation or service is planned. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donors choice. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
